Feel free to add a comments below, I will answer as soon as possible.
I received from the Box Developer Relations Team a message about changing their user_id field from a 32-bit integer to a 64-bit integer.
Should we do anything?
No need to do anything, mDocs does not store user_id information so all is good.
I’m just starting to use Memphis Documents on a website where two specific users, the newsletter editor and the membership chairperson, will regularly upload files. In one case the newsletter editor will simply add a new file each month and that functionality works great! Thank you VERY much.
However, in the other case the Membership chairperson periodically uploads the list of all current members which changes fequently. Until now we’ve been using the very same file name for the updated file and manually ftping it to a specific folder on the site. With Memphis Documents it seems that EVERY uploaded file is an additional NEW file. Is it possible to either 1) overwrite existing files that have the same name or 2) give the uploader person permission to delete files from the frontend? I don’t want the person uploading to have access to the backend or need to know anything about the backend so Memphis Documents is PERFECT… almost. 😉
The best you can use is mDocs version control which replaces a file with a new one, that is the best you can do, but you will need backend access to do this.
Delete files with the same name will never happen, there is too many variables in play and would be too risky.
Hello, thanks for all your work on this great plugin. I’m having two minor problems with the file descriptions. First, an extra paragraph break is being added to the beginning of my description, which leaves an empty line above the description text. Memphis Docs didn’t always work this way, so my older files don’t have that empty line, while the new ones do (but I don’t know in which version it started).
Also in the descriptions, if I use apostrophes the browser will display an extra backslash in front of them. Is that unnecessary escaping of special characters?
I will look into the issues and hope to have a fix next version.
I am trying to use the search option to search document tag words or even words from the title of document and it shows no result. Am I missing some aspect of getting this to work?
WordPress does not search those type of things by default you will need to download another plugin that adds that functionality.
I’m looking for a way to create a documents library for WP that I can use to store a large number of PDF files. I would then like to create links to various documents on web pages that are part of the WP based web site. So far nothing that I’ve tried has worked. Maybe this plugin is not designed to do this but if not I’m not sure what it is designed for or maybe my novice status with WP isn’t sufficient to understand what is required. Is this the right plugin for what I want to do? If so, how should I go about making the connection between links on a web page and the document in the library that I want to be referenced? If not, any suggestions for what might work? Basically, I’m looking for something that will work like the Media library except for documents. I could put the documents in the media library and have done that on a test basis and this does what I want to do. The only problem is that I can’t organize PDFs in the media library only audio and visual files.
mDocs gives you to options for links one is a direct download of the file the other is a link to the mdocs post of the file. Both of these links can be found by clicking on the file which produces a dropdown menu. Click on the “Share” link and copy and paste the desired link.
You can also use a shortcode to display the file in any page or post of WordPress. To see the list of shortcodes click on the Options > Short Codes link.
Hi, nice plugin, I really like it! I wounder if it is possible to turn of the “File options” menu, you will see it in this picture: https://ps.w.org/memphis-documents-library/assets/screenshot-2.png?rev=1521353
currently no, but it is a feature request.
I’ve updated to latest version, I’ve a child theme with polylang plugin.
In the header I have “text not found” using english language ( all fields except “Name” properly displayed ), using the Italian tab everything is shown right, how can I fix it ?
What is your default language? This will cause the issue if you are trying to use two different languages on the site.
Italian, I tried also with a demo-site with english as default, so … it is not possible to use a multilang environment?
I’m currently using memphis docs for my association.
However, since the new version, I think one important function of memphis disapeared.
I’ll explain : we use it for personal folders of each of our clients which are supposed to be sorted by alphabetical order. In the previous version, when we just use “Edit folders” and use an existing number, it would just reattribute all the number with 1 more. Now, it just delete the folder with the same number.
Was that intended ? Since we have more than 200 clients, we can’t just rewrite all the numbers from 1 to 200 when one new client has a name starting with A 🙂
Or would that be possible to sort them alphabetically somehow ?
Keep up the good work
folder have not been updated or changed in many version, but this is a normal senario right now. I will take a look at the code and see what I can do it fix the issue.
I am not able to select another folder with the the frontend upload menu., the only folder selected is “Documents”, What is wrong? I am using the following short code:
[mdocs_upload_btn hide_all=”true” folder_edit=”true” ]
is it possible to preview word and excel files??
That code should work with out a problem, can you open a browser inspect and let me know if you see any errors.
If you want word and excel previews you will have to use Box API you can find out more information from mDocs Settings.
thanks for the response. the problem is as follow:
pressing the upload button and the “Adding document” window appears
pressing the “folder” to select another folder than the default nothing happens.
when closing the the “adding Document” window, the roll down appears. This menu seems to be hided behind the “adding document” menu.
now I can select folder here and when again pressing the “upload file” button the right folder is selected.
the fault is that the roll down menu is hidden behind the “adding document ” window.
looking forward to your response.
Sounds like a style issue. Try disabling all other plugins and see if the problem goes away.
it is the theme that makes the troubles.
I am using “Virtue Premium”theme.
do you have any suggestions to fix the bug?
I have fixed the issue!
thank you for responses.
glad you figured it out 🙂
How do i set that only registered users on the website can DOWNLOAD the file…. so first register, then you can download… without registration, you can only view the list, not even preview…
you would click the options “Hide All Files: (Non Members)”
I use memphis document library for share PDF file. I have some question. I would like to use mdocs-thumbnail to featured image, How to I get it. please advice.
currently its not possible to do that. Will take a look and see what I could do but can’t promise anything. I will add this to the feature request list.
I have recently found a bug on my website related to MDocs causing a console error.
The error is displayed in the browser console as: ‘Uncaught ReferenceError: mdocs_wp is not defined’
You can replicate this error by:
1. Going to the website and login in using the email: email@example.com
2. Once you have logged in click on the ‘Search by Date’ field and click the first available date.
3. Once the page has loaded check the browsers console and it should display the error mentioned above.
The issue only occurred when we updated to version 3.9.5 from version 184.108.40.206.
This error is stopping our JS from being run on the page, so we had to roll back to version 220.127.116.11
Note: The error was picked up in Google Chrome’s console.
Would you be able to take a look into it?
I would try updating again, but make sure you have cleared your browser cache. Looks like its a js variable that is not used any more. It may be as simple as that.
I’m trying out the documents library plugin, and I can’t seem to figure how to upload a revision of a file.
I upload the same file, with the same name but a higher version number in the upload dialog, but it keeps appearing as a new file, not a new version.
Can you help me out? Also I was wondering if a feature could be added to generate a thumbnail from a .dwg file, or possibly an option to upload your own thumbnail.
My company would be willing to pay for this functionality.
To upload a revision simple click on the file that you want to update then click the link “Manage File”. This will bring up the upload modal again. Select the new file and then save. That it your new file becomes the new mDocs file. To see all your revisions simple click on the view versions link from the dropdown again or Manage Version if you are the owner of the file.
New user. Uploaded Zip files from smartypants plugin library and I cannot get the folders within the Zip files to download or display their contents.
Im not sure what the smartypants plugin does, but it has no integration with mDocs. Can you explain what it is you are trying to do.
